Winter Field Day - 2022

2 Feb 2022 by William McKeehan (KI4HDU)

This past weekend, January 29-30, Hal, WB4E, and William, KI4HDU, participated the 2022 Winter Field Day event. We used the Loudon County ARES Trailer and operated from the Blount County 911 Center.

David Weikeert, KF4DKW, towed the trailer to the BC 911 center and helped with getting it setup. The trailer featured a 15KW generator and a pneumatic mast. Nick, KK4TID, and Dave, N9KMY, helped with the setup and take-down of the station.

We mounted a Chameleon antenna in a dipole configuration on the mast and ran it up as far as the coax would reach. This antenna had exceptional reception and relatively low SWR (<4:1) on 80M and 40M. It was used with the digital station and worked reasonably well.

The voice station operated primarily on Hal’s 20M vertical antenna (the same one that was used last year). This antenna was quite successful.

A huge thanks to David Weikert – KF4DKW for letting us use the trailer as well as transporting it to our location.

Pictures from KF4DWK, KK4TID, N9KMY and KI4HDU have been added to the Winter Field Day 2022 Gallery here on the Team app (https://bcares.teamapp.com/clubs/465784/photos/1601884?_detail=v1) if you want to see more of the setup.
